Claiming Listings
It is not guaranteed that listings Yext is powering will show up as "Claimed" on Yelp. Listings may go live while syncing content, but still show up as "Unclaimed." In this case, you should claim listings directly through the Yelp UI.
When Yext creates listings on Yelp, they are not automatically linked to your Yelp account. You need to claim them directly. Even as part of the Review Response and Review Monitoring process, Yext does not claim the listing.
Note: Yext can only help clients claim their Yelp listings if they have Yelp Review Response.
To check if a listing is already claimed, look under the Name section — you should see a "Claimed" status.
Listings Matching
Yelp should accept matches, but in some cases they may return an error with the unavailable reason: "Yelp is unable to match to the listing you indicated." If you see this:
- Opt out of the location.
- Opt in the same location.
- If the unavailable reason persists, reach out to your account team.
Yelp Returning a Bad Match
Yelp has their own internal matching, so even if Yext tries to create a new listing or match to one listing, Yelp may match to a different listing. If this happens and Yext overwrites data on the wrong match, reach out to Yext for assistance with creating a new listing and reverting the bad match. Note that even though Yext can create a new listing, Yelp may decide to merge it in the future.
Listing Suppression
Suppression is only offered for SMB. Suppression requests are submitted once a day. Yelp does not remove listings but will instead merge suppressed listings to their duplicate listing. When listings are merged, photos and reviews from both listings are combined.
Yelp manually reviews suppression requests and the process can take up to 4 weeks. If a client wants their listing removed from Yelp, Yext treats this as a suppression. In this case, that link would lead to a 404 page.
Content Updates and Syncing
After a listing is live, Yext only pushes updated data to Yelp rather than the full listing data. For instance, if a location changes its hours, Yext will push the updated hours to Yelp but will not push data from unchanged fields.
If you update data directly in Yelp, Yext will not automatically override those changes unless you also update those fields in Yext. For example, if an edit has been made within the Yelp UI to a listing's name and then the hours are updated in Yext for the same location, Yext will only push out the hours field — not the name, since that information was not updated in Yext.
External Edits
Yext does not lock listings from external edits once they've gone live. Yelp users and business owners who have claimed their Yelp business can submit edits directly through the Yelp UI. Edits made directly in Yelp will go through Yelp's manual review. If they pass review, they can override the Yext data displayed on the listing. External edits will not change the data stored in the Yext Knowledge Graph.
Yelp Indexing
It takes two weeks for Yelp to re-index their listings. Yext recommends waiting two weeks after making data updates before reaching out to your account team for assistance.
Incorrect Listing Information in SERP and URL: NAP (Name, Address, and Phone number) changes appear in the SERP and URL, but there could be a delay if you update this data. If your content is appearing correctly on your listing but the SERP and URL are showing old information, wait two weeks for the changes to be reflected.
