Using the Email Editor
The email editor is a robust tool for creating high-quality marketing emails specifically tailored to your brand and subject matter. You can use a wide variety of building blocks to structure and organize your email, then customize those blocks with your own colors, fonts, images, and content.
Structuring your Email with Blocks
To get started building a new email from scratch, in the left sidebar, click Blocks.
Blocks are modular, pre-made components you can add, arrange, and customize to create your template. You can select blocks from one of several categories, as follows:
- Custom blocks are ones you or your organization have saved as a custom component.
- Structure blocks are the most basic parts of the email that are often reused in other emails you send, such as your company header, email signature, or legal disclosures.
- Content blocks are where you customize your email based on your subject matter or intended audience. For example, you can add a media block to showcase a lifestyle image and a story.
- Commerce blocks allow you to showcase your products or a promotional event.
- Trust & Help blocks add helpful information, like an FAQ section or ratings data.
- Actions blocks show a call-to-action, like a 2fa verification panel or a button to a web page.
When you’ve found a block you want to add, click the name of a block and drag it to where you want it on your email template. Rearrange your blocks by clicking and dragging them around on your template.
To delete a block, click on it and then click the trash can icon above the block.
Customizing your Email
Now that you’ve structured your email, it’s time to make it unique.
Page-Level Color
Start customizing your email by applying a page-level background color. If you want one or more blocks to have different colors, you can make changes to those individual blocks later.
Page-level branding is in the right sidebar labeled Page.
Note: If you don’t see the Page sidebar, you might have clicked into a block. Either click Page in the breadcrumb at the top of the sidebar or click outside the editor.
Customizing your Blocks
Now you can start tailoring your email to your needs by adding your own images and writing content.
To customize a block, click on it in your email editor. Then, in the right sidebar, make your selections for what you want to change in the block. Many blocks contain items like the following:
- Images
- Image layout
- Image alt text
- Heading text
- Body text
- CTA label and URL
- Text and background colors
- Corner radius
- Padding
- Embedded fields
When you’re done editing a block, it is a good practice to lock it in order to prevent accidental changes. You can do this in one of two ways:
- Click on the block in the editor and, above it, click the lock icon.
- Click Lock at the top of the right sidebar.
Saving Custom Components
Custom components provide a way to quickly reuse blocks that have already been customized, rather than having to recustomize blocks from scratch for new emails. Creating a custom component preserves text, colors, images, and other edits you have made to a block.
To turn a block into a custom component, do the following:
- Insert any component you want and edit it as you would like it to appear in the future.
- Click the block in the editor.
- In the pop up menu, click Create Custom.
- Enter a name for the block, and optionally provide a description and any notes you want users to know about it.
- Click Create.
Custom blocks are available at the top of your component list, under Custom.
To delete a custom block, click Edit next to the name of the block, then click Delete.
Embedded Fields
Embedded fields allow you to insert dynamic data into your blocks from the Knowledge Graph or Contact Variables. These fields are auto-populated with data specific to the entity you send the email on behalf of. For example, if an email was sent on behalf of a financial advisor (entity), a Full Name field in an email signature block would resolve to that advisor’s name.
Embedded Fields have a + next to them.
Mobile View
The editor defaults to a desktop view. To see how the email will render on a mobile device, click the mobile icon above the email editor.
