Email Settings Page
Yext Email requires some light administrative setup and management for things like tagging emails and inserting contact variables. To configure Email, on the Email page, click the gear icon in the upper right.
Domains
Domains are your company’s email domain. This is configured for you.
Senders
Your senders are which email addresses recipients see in the From field in your emails. This is configured for you.
Tags
Tags help you categorize and filter your emails. Tags appear as labels on emails in the Email Library, and a Tags filter allows you to easily find emails based on tag name.
To create a tag, do the following:
- On the Settings page, click the Tags tab.
- Click New Tag.
- Enter the name of the tag, then click Save.
To edit a tag name, click the pencil icon next to the tag. The name change takes effect immediately for all new and existing emails.
To delete a tag, click the trash icon next to the tag.
Contact Variables
Contact variables are attributes you can assign to contacts in order to better organize and search for them, or to dynamically add them to Smart Lists. For example, you can create curated content for retiree contacts by adding a Date of Birth variable, which allows users to add the date of birth for a contact. You can then create a Smart List that dynamically adds any contact over the age of 65. Using this list, you can create targeted emails and build automated campaigns that send relevant retirement-related content to this subset of your contacts.
To add a contact variable, do the following:
- On the Settings page, click the Contact Variables tab.
- Click Create Contact Variable.
- Add details
- Key - backend identifier; should be all lowercase with _ instead of spaces
- Display Name - what the user sees in the platform
- Type - either text, true/false, number, or a date
Click Edit to change an existing variable. The variable is updated for existing contacts.
Click Archive to remove a variable. Archived variables will no longer be available for use in creating lists or adding to emails for dynamic content as embedded fields.
Subscription Controls
Subscription controls let you decide how recipients can opt out of your emails. To configure them, on the Settings page, click the Subscription Controls tab.
Unsubscribe Options
- Allow business-wide unsubscribe - lets recipients stop all marketing email from your business in one click.
Recipients can always unsubscribe from a single sender, whether or not this option is on.
Subscription Types
Subscription types are categories of email, such as Promotions & Offers or Monthly Newsletter. Recipients choose which types they want to receive on the Manage email preferences page. Each marketing email uses one type. New recipients receive every type by default.
Your account starts with a set of default types. General Marketing is managed by the system and can't be renamed or deleted.
To create a subscription type, do the following:
- Under Subscription types, click New subscription type.
- Enter a Name and Description. Recipients see both on the Manage email preferences page. Click Recipient preview to check how it looks.
- Click Create.
To edit a subscription type, click Edit next to it. Renaming a type doesn’t affect current subscribers.
To delete a subscription type, click Delete next to it. If emails still use the type, you'll be asked to move them to another type first:
- Drafts move right away.
- Approved emails need to be approved again with the new type. Until then, they keep sending under the old type.
When no emails use the deleted type anymore, it's deleted, it's removed from the Manage email preferences page, and recipients' choices for it are cleared. This can't be undone.
Note: You must always have at least one subscription type. Create another before deleting the last one.
