What are Food Place Actions?
Google’s knowledge card is one of the most prominent areas where consumers can engage with your business. For restaurants, the knowledge card features an “Order Online” CTA on Google Search and Maps. After a user clicks on this CTA, they will be redirected to the restaurant’s Google ordering experience.
On the ordering experience, there will be options for Pickup and Delivery. You can power these Google options through Yext by configuring two types of links, known as Food Place Actions:
- Pickup URLs (powered by the Order URL field in Yext)
- Delivery URLs (powered by the Delivery URL field in Yext)
Place Actions URLs can either be your restaurant’s first-party ordering link, or various third-party food platforms such as UberEats and DoorDash.
Using Place Actions also removes ambiguous warnings on Google listings, like “May offer pickup” and “May offer delivery,” which can cause uncertainty about ordering availability.
Note: Yext does not interface with third-party food providers. Check out Google’s help articles on accepting orders from third-party providers or removing third-party links.
Power Food Place Actions in Yext
To add your Pickup link to a listing, add the link to the Order URL field on your chosen Restaurant entity.
To add your Delivery link to a listing, add the link to the Delivery URL field on your chosen Restaurant entity.
To add these links to individual entities or sets of entities in Yext Content:
- Navigate to Content > Entities. Select your restaurant entity, or select a set of restaurant entities. If you are selecting multiple entities, make sure that all these restaurants should have the same Pickup and Delivery links.
- Add your Pickup link to the Order URL field and your Delivery link to the Delivery URL field.
- Save your changes.
To add these links to entities in bulk via spreadsheet upload:
- Export your chosen set of entities. Make sure to include the Name, Entity ID, and any other fields that will help you distinguish these entities and add the correct links.
- When the export has downloaded, open the file and add three columns:
- Order URL > URL
- Order URL > Display URL
- Delivery URL
- Populate these columns with the appropriate links for each location (Pickup links in the Order URL columns and Delivery links in the Delivery URL column).
- Re-upload your spreadsheet to apply these changes to your entities.
Allow your listings to sync and the options should appear when users click on the Order Online CTA on your restaurant's Google listing.
