This article details how to manage the settings on fields after they are created in Yext.
You can change information on fields such as the display name, available options (for list or multi-select fields), the validation options, and which systems can make changes to the field.
To learn how to create a new field, see Create a Custom Field. To learn how to organize fields and make them available on entity types, see Create and Organize Field Sections.
Manage settings on fields
- Navigate to Knowledge Graph > Configuration and select the Fields tile.
- Find and click on your desired field in the table.
- Change any desired settings in the Settings tab. When finished, click Save Field in the lower right.
Available field settings
Below are all the field settings that you can configure on the Field Settings page.
The settings you will see on each field depend on the field type. For example, you will be able to configure the Item Count for a List field, but not for a Yes/No field.
Note that it may not be possible to change certain field settings if:
- The field is already in use on entities
- The field is a built-in Yext field, not a custom field
Setting | Description |
Field Type | You cannot change the field type after the field is created. |
Field Name | The display name for the field in the Knowledge Graph. If you use multi-language profiles in Yext, you can also add an optional translation for the field name. |
ID | The internal ID for the field (used by API, apps, publishers, and other Yext systems such as Listings and Pages). It is not recommended to change this once the field is created, because it could break applications that reference the current field ID. |
Entity Type Availability | The entity type or types the field will display for. |
Field Settings | The validation and input options for the field. This will vary depending on the field type. For more on field validation by type, see the Standard Field Types reference. |
Tooltip Description | A short description of the field that users will see when they hover over the field in the Knowledge Graph. If you use multi-language profiles in Yext, you can also add an optional translation for the tooltip description. |
Custom Field Permission Group | The field permission group the field is assigned to. For more on field permission groups, see Create a Custom Field Permission Group. |
Alternate Language Behavior | How the field should be translated if you are using multi-language profiles in Yext. For more on language behavior in Yext, see the Multi-Language Field Behavior training unit. |
Write Scope |

Computed field values
You can define computation methods for fields if you want them to be automatically set by the Yext system. For more on how to use computed field values, see the Leverage Computed Field Values guide.
Click the Computation Method tab to access the field computation settings.
