Entity views allow you to see which fields on an entity are relevant to Listings and Pages. Currently, there are two types of entity views: Publishers and Pages Fields.
Entity views for publishers allow you to filter your entities to display the fields that are eligible to sync to a certain publisher. They also have the option to display which fields are Required or Recommended by your chosen publisher. This gives you insight around which fields are necessary to populate in Yext in order to optimize your listings.
Entity views for Pages allow you to display which fields on an entity are powering your Pages templates. You can select a certain site and page template to filter an entity down to the fields that are pulled into the version of the selected template that is currently published to Production.
Entity views can be applied in Entity Edit for a specific entity, or in Bulk Edit on a set of entities. For more information, see the Entity Views product reference.
Details on how to use both types of entity views are below.
Apply an Entity View for Publishers
1. Navigate to Content > Entities and select the entity or set of entities you'd like to apply a view for.
2. Click the Publisher Fields pill at the top of the entity. Choose your desired publisher from the dropdown menu and click Apply.
3. You will now see that the fields on the entity have been filtered down to display only the fields that sync to your chosen publisher. There will also be Required or Recommended labels on each field. These indicate whether the field is required for the chosen publisher (i.e., a listing cannot go live on that publisher without these fields populated) or recommended (i.e., a listing can still go live on this publisher without these fields, but it is a good idea to populate them).
4. You will also see an additional Publisher Field Options pill at the top of the entity. You can click the pill to only view fields that are Required or Recommended for your chosen publisher.
5. To remove an entity view once it is applied, click the X on the pills at the top of the entity. This will remove the filter and display all fields on the entity.
Publisher Guidelines
After applying an entity view, you may see that some fields have additional text. These are publisher guidelines:
Publisher guidelines include suggestions, best practices, or additional information about how to use a certain field. You may see these guidelines change as different publishers are selected in an entity view.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I see certain fields for a publisher when I apply an entity view?
- The fields shown in entity views are dependent on your user permissions. You must have at least View permissions on a field in order to see it on any entity in Content, and this also applies to entity views.
What publishers are available to choose from?
All publishers in the Yext Publisher Network are available to use in entity views. However, the publishers you see in your account depend on these factors:
- Country/region availability
- You will only see the publishers that are available in the country where the selected entity is located.
- For example, locations in France cannot be synced to Bing, so Bing will not appear in the Publisher Fields dropdown for any location entities in France.
- Business subscription
- Only publishers that are available within your account’s subscription will be shown. Contact your Client Success Manager for any questions about your subscription.
- Only publishers that are available within your account’s subscription will be shown. Contact your Client Success Manager for any questions about your subscription.
- Feature suppression
- If any feature suppression options have been enabled in your Yext account to hide certain publishers, those publishers will not appear in entity views.
- Contact your Client Success Manager for any questions on feature suppression.
- Entity category
- We will only display publishers that are relevant to the category of the selected entity.
- For example, “Massage Spa” is not an eligible category on iBegin, so iBegin will not appear in the Publisher Fields dropdown on any locations with a Massage Spa category.
- Entity type
- We will only display publishers that are relevant to the type of the selected entity.
- For example, WebMD won’t show up as a publisher when creating a publisher entity view for Restaurant entities.
Can I create an entity view for more than one publisher at a time?
- Yes, but keep in mind that selecting a lot of publishers at once may lead to a cluttered view, since each publisher will have its own Required/Recommended labels on fields.
Apply an Entity View for Pages
The steps to apply an entity view for Pages are similar to how to use entity views for publisher fields.
1. Navigate to Content > Entities and select the entity or set of entities you'd like to apply a view for.
2. Click the Pages Fields pill at the top of the entity and choose your desired Pages site from the dropdown. When you choose a site, the dropdown menu will expand to display the page templates contained in the site.
3. After choosing your site and page templates, click Apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sites will be shown in the Pages Fields dropdown?
- All Pages sites in the account will be displayed in the dropdown. Note that entity views for Pages are not supported for Classic Pages or Page Builder sites.
Why isn't a specific page template appearing after I select my site? Or, why aren't certain fields showing after I apply the filter, even though they are part of my page template?
- The page templates and fields shown depend upon the current production version of the selected site. If you have made changes that are not published to production (e.g., adding a template to a site, or changing a template to include other fields), those changes will not be reflected in the entity view.
